Grace of Monaco’s Release Delayed to Spring 2014

The busy Oscar film release schedule got a little lighter today. The Hollywood Reporter writes the Weinstein Co. has decided to delay the release of the Grace Kelly biopic Grace of Monaco from this November to next spring. Its star, Nicole Kidman, was considered an Oscar contender if only for her past work and the Academy-appealing subject matter; however, it appears the studio is opting for a more commercial release than an awards-focused one. The Weinsteins already have a good number of movies to push — Fruitvale StationLee Daniels’ The Butler, The Grandmaster, 20 Feet From StardomSalinger, and a few more without release dates (Mandela: Long Walk to FreedomPhilomena, August: Osage County, and One Chance) — so watch out, other prestige-focused mid-major studios.
