This Week in Comedy: The Fall TV Season Begins and ‘SNL’ Makes More Changes

-Brooks Wheelan is SNL’s newest cast member, the sixth addition this season. Cecily Strong will join Seth Meyers behind the Update desk this season.

-The fall TV season officially began with the premieres of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Key & Peele, The Mindy Project, New Girl, and Dads.

-Improvisers will perform live commercials on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon for the next few Thursdays.

-Louis C.K. went on Conan and they reminisced about working together on Late Night in 1993 and getting into fights.

-Fox is now the home of critically acclaimed, smart comedies, while NBC strives to broaden their audience with less narrow shows.

-We talked to Wyatt Cenac about The Daily Show, Mike Schur about Parks and Rec and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Vernon Chatman and John Lee about The Heart, She Holler, Brad Neely and Daniel Weidenfeld about Adult Swim’s China, Il, Dan St. Germain about his new Comedy Central web series, and Kathleen Madigan about her new standup special.

-Happy Endings’ Adam Pally was promoted to a series regular on The Mindy Project. His first appearance on the show is October 1st.

-The Kids in the Hall are reuniting for a run of live shows in Canada.

-Standup Taylor Williamson placed second on America’s Got Talent.

-Black Books’ Dylan Moran has a pilot deal with ABC, making it his first time working in American television.

-We looked back  at a conversation between Dick Cavett and Graham Chapman, and Abby Elliott’s stint on SNL.
