North Carolina Republican Resigns After Super Racist ‘Daily Show’ Interview

On Wednesday’s Daily Show, correspondent Aasif Mandvi delved into North Carolina’s new Voter ID law, interviewing Don Yelton, precinct chair of the Buncombe County Republican Party. In the course of the interview, Yelton referred to “lazy blacks” that want “the government to give them everything,” while also arguing that neither he nor the law he supported were racist. Now, the local GOP party says Yelton has resigned from his post, saying in a statement, “Mr. Yelton’s comments are offensive, uniformed, and unacceptable of any member within the Republican Party. In no way are his comments representative of the local or state Republican Party.” Below, check out the original interview in its entirety.
