Eminem Explains His Homophobic Lyrics, Again

Eminem has been writing homophobic lyrics almost as long as he has been rapping, and every few years, he tries to explain why his hateful words aren’t actually hateful in his head. This week, he gives his non-apology to Rolling Stone, who asked him about a few lines in his recent “Rap God.” (Sample: “Little gay-looking boy / So gay I can barely say it with a straight face-looking boy.”) His answer: “I don’t know how to say this without saying it how I’ve said it a million times. But that word, those kind of words, when I came up battle-rappin’ or whatever, I never really equated those words … ” The writer breaks in to supply the word homosexual. “Yeah,” Eminem replies. “It was more like calling someone a bitch or a punk or asshole. So that word was just thrown around so freely back then.” This is pretty much exactly what he told Anderson Cooper in 2010; does it sound any better now?
