The movie Oldboy — both the Korean original and Spike Lee's remake — is full of torture scenes. There's the psychological torture of imprisoning someone for years without telling them why, and then there's the physical torture once the prisoner escapes and seeks bloody vengeance. So it made sense that torture victim Theon, we mean Reek, we mean Game of Thrones actor Alfie Allen, would be engrossed, rather than grossed out, by the subject matter at hand during the Cinema Society screening of Oldboy last night at AMC Lincoln Square. In fact, Allen shared with Vulture one of his favorite filmic torture scenes, the one he used to help get in Theon/Reek's mind-set during his preparation for the next season: the ear sequence in Reservoir Dogs. "That was really harrowing," he told us. "Watching that torture scene was a big thing for me, and I thought that actor [Kirk Baltz] was amazing. That was a brilliant piece of torture acting."
