NBC Buys a Comedy About a Comedian from Bill Lawrence and Dan Lagana

Scrubs and Cougar Town creator Bill Lawrence has teamed up Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous co-creator Dan Lagana to sell a multi-camera sitcom about a stand-up comedian to NBC, Deadline reports. Stand-Up Guy will focus on “a young comedian who pursues his lifelong dream of being a working stand-up while juggling the growing responsibilities of being a husband and soon-to-be-father at home.”

It’s the second sitcom for sale for Lagana, who sold a family sitcom to CBS earlier this week. Lawrence has several other shows in the works; he created TBS’s new sitcom Ground Floor, as well as the upcoming NBC Comedy Undateable, and he sold the action comedy Chasing Skips to Fox earlier this season.

Generally, shows about stand-up comedians are based on the specific lives and acts of the starring comedian (think Seinfeld and Louie), but there’s no word on whether Lagana and Lawrence have a particular stand-up in mind for the lead role.
