Paul Feig Is Making a Spinoff of ‘The Heat’ Starring Jamie Denbo and Jessica Chaffin

Paul Feig is planning a spinoff to last summer’s The Heat that will star Jamie Denbo and Jessica Chaffin, who played members of Melissa McCarthy’s Boston-based family, Beth and Gina. Deadline says the movie will be written by LA-based writer Tricia McAlpin, who improvises on UCB LA’s The Smokes alongside Heat writer Katie Dippold. There’s no storyline for the characters yet, and the film doesn’t mean that the reported Heat sequel is definitely dead.

Denbo and Chaffin are best known for their talk show-hosting characters Ronna & Beverly. Feig directed a Showtime pilot of Ronna & Beverly, and co-produced a six-episode series that eventually aired on Sky Atlantic in the UK. The characters also host a monthly show at UCB and a bi-weekly podcast on Earwolf. Feig, meanwhile, as several projects ongoing; he’s overseeing the new Peanuts movie, planning a gay rom-com, directing the upcoming Lorne Michaels/Sarah Silverman pilot, and working with Melissa McCarthy again in his new spy comedy Susan Cooper.
