fond farewells

R.I.P., SOAPnet

SOAPnet will soap no more after December 31, so you’re going to have to get your 90210 marathons and Gilmore Girls repeats elsewhere. Disney first planned to shut the channel down years ago, the L.A. Times reports, but it was granted a brief stay of execution since cable and satellite operators wanted to appease soap opera fans. Now that there are so few soaps, though, the network has less of a purpose. Although some of us considered its purpose to be a way to stock up on DVRed episodes of One Tree Hill.
