Orange Is the New Black and Weeds creator Jenji Kohan is developing a Salem witch period drama at HBO, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Kohan might not scream "period drama," but think of it this way: Even though both OITNB and Weeds are very pop-infused and contemporary, they are also both about meeting and not meeting social norms, about women (and occasional men) who are cast out or vilified, and about the violence cultures are willing to tolerate in the name of maintaining peace. Plus, witches are very trendy right now: American Horror Story, Sleepy Hollow, Witches of East End, a Charmed reboot, The Originals and The Vampire Diaries, True Blood — we live in bewitching times, friends.
