As you might have deduced if you watched Glee’s Cory Monteith memorial episode “The Quarterback,” the show was originally supposed to end with Rachel returning to her small-town sweetheart. “The very last line of dialogue was to be this: Rachel comes back to Ohio, fulfilled and yet not, and walks into Finn’s glee club. ‘What are you doing here?’ he would ask. ‘I’m home,’ she would reply. Fade out. The end,” Ryan Murphy said in a eulogy delivered at a memorial service in July, an excerpt of which was printed in this week’s EW. No word yet on what the series finale will look like without Monteith, but we have to assume it will still involve Rachel and Finn in some way. It would be far too sad if it didn’t.
