The Avengers made $1.5 billion. All Hollywood decisions are made with that in mind. With that comes Sony's announcement that they intend to expand the Spider-Man movie universe. Sony's plan starts with a "brain trust," which includes The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb, writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Transformers, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and 3), Jeff Pinkner (Fringe, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and 3), Ed Solomon (Men in Black, Now You See Me), and Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, World War Z), and producers Avi Arad (former CEO of Marvel Studios) and Matt Tolmach (producer of these The Amazing Spider-Man movies). Though Spider-Man doesn't have a cadre of good guys like X-Men and Avengers, the series does have a bunch of iconic villains. And first up is Venom, written by Kurtzman, Orci, and Solomon, with Kurtzman directing. Venom, whom Topher Grace played unremarkably in Spider-Man 3, is Spider-Man's most well known and, frankly, awesome bad guy. That will lead into the much-discussed Sinister Six movie, which is named after the group of bad guys who teamed up to take down Spider-Man. Goddard is expected to write and possibly direct it, despite his connection to Disney's Marvel franchise, with him being signed on to spearhead the Daredevil Netflix series. Enjoy all your money, everyone.
