We thought we could not be more intrigued by the news that Matilda composer Tim Minchin has teamed up with Groundhog Day screenwriter Danny Rubin to develop a musical version of the 1993 comedy. Then we read Minchin’s comment that “it would be impossible to try to translate the style and tone of the movie to stage.” What does it mean? Either way, we’re crossing our fingers for a heart-rending “Ryerson’s Lament (Send My Regards To Mary Pat).”
