NBC Orders 3 Pilots from Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, Dan Mazer, and J.J. Philbin

NBC has ordered three more pilots including one from McKay and Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez Productions, Deadline reports. The first pilot Love Is Relative is a multi-camera comedy written by Borat/Bruno co-writer Dan Mazer and co-produced by Tom Werner about “a wife and husband who begin to see their marriage in a whole new way after her newly divorced brother moves in.”

The second pilot, titled Ellen More Or Less, is a single-camera show written by J.J. Philbin and produced by Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood) that follows “an average-size woman who, after losing 100 pounds, begins reinventing herself in life and love.” Loosely based on the nonfiction book 10 Lessons From A Former Fat Girl by two former Biggest Loser contestants (NBC synergy!!), Ellen More Or Less makes the second weight-centric sitcom pilot to get a major network order – there’s also Jim Rash, Nat Faxon, and Nahnatchka Khan’s pilot Fatrick over at Fox.

Last but far from least is the McKay/Ferrell-produced Mission Control, “a workplace ensemble said to be in the tone of Anchorman. Set in 1962, it examines what happens when a strong woman butts heads with a macho astronaut in the race to land on the moon.” It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s David Hornsby wrote the pilot and will also serve as executive producer.

NBC has ordered five comedy pilots so far this week; on Monday they ordered two other pilots from writing teams Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael (Mason Twins) as well as Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (A to Z).
