NBC has ordered a pilot for a new comedy targeted for the 2014-15 TV season. Called One Big Happy, the sitcom is created by 2 Broke Girls writer/producer Liz Feldman and is executive produced by Ellen DeGeneres. The plot follows a lesbian and her straight male best friend who decide to have a baby together, with matters becoming complicated when he meets and marries the love of his life. Feldman, like DeGeneres, is a lesbian, and has written for DeGeneres’s daytime talk show, Ellen, in the past. NBC started developing One Big Happy in the fall. The network currently has one sitcom with a gay lead character (Sean Saves the World), having canceled its previous show with gay leads, The New Normal, after one season last year.
