Heroes Will Be Rebooted As a Miniseries

Operating under the belief that Heroes was an “iconic series that still commands a rabid fan base,” NBC has announced that it’s giving the show a miniseries reboot. The thirteen new episodes will make up a stand-alone arc and air — according to the fifteen-second teaser that ran on the network during Saturday night’s Olympics coverage and which you can watch below in case you were out and not watching TV in the desperate hope your favorite college show would be magically rebooted — in 2015.

Variety reports that there will also be a digital series to introduce fans to the characters they’ll focus on this time around. From NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke said, “The enormous impact Heroes had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening. Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment.” While creator Tim Kring will be back at the helm, there’s no word yet on which original cast members will return. Don’t expect any leaks about the cheerleader, though: Salke insisted the new show is being “appropriately shrouded in secrecy.”
