Yesterday, we learned that Fred Armisen would be Seth Meyers’s Late Night band leader. But did you know that Jimmy Fallon wants in on the collaboration, too? Okay, not really. But that was the joke Fallon ran with when we asked him about the SNL-inspired team-up at last night’s American Songbook Gala at Lincoln Center. “I gave [Fred] my e-mail today, and I said, ‘I can play guitar!’” Fallon told Vulture. “So I have to audition, but I think I have an in. I’m always there; I’m always there for him, if he needs me. Absolutely. Whatever he needs.” Lorne Michaels was a bit more straightforward, as you might imagine, when asked how Fred-as-band-leader would play out. “He’s so talented, so we’re going to figure it out somehow. And Seth won’t be alone up there, which is what I care about.” So will Fred be a sidekick of sorts? “At least if [Seth] looks to his left, he’s got a friendly face.”
