It’s no big surprise: The latest big-screen adaptation of a highly popular young-adult series has topped the box office. This time, it’s Divergent, based on Veronica Roth’s best-selling adventure novels, which made $56 million in its first weekend. That makes it this year’s second-best opening. (The Lego Movie holds top billing for its $69 million debut.) Also new this weekend was Muppets Most Wanted, which took second place at the box office with  $17 million. In third place (and in its third week) was Mr. Peabody and Sherman, which brought in $11.7 million for a cumulative total of $81. Meanwhile, the Christian-leaning God’s Not Dead opened in fourth place with $8.6 million. Finally, fifth-placer 300: Rise of an Empire added another $8.6 million to its impressive-enough domestic cumulative haul, which now stands at $93.7 million.
