Get a First Look at The Avengers’ Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch

We’ve known for a while that hot-dude-who’s-never-quite-hit-stardom Aaron Taylor-Johnson and oft-neglected third Olsen Elizabeth Olsen were going to be in 2015’s megabudget Avengers sequel, Age of Ultron. But today, we have a glimpse of the costumes they’ll be wearing, and they’re surprisingly non-goofy! Marvel released concept art (not photos, mind you) for their respective characters: super-siblings Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.

For decades, Marvel’s comics have featured Quicksilver (who runs really fast) and the Scarlet Witch (who has vaguely defined reality-altering powers). They’re about to be on the big screen. But here’s the thing: Four different actors are playing them in two different movies owned by different companies. In the comics, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch are mutants (children of Magneto, in fact) and, since 20th Century Fox owns the mutant-driven X-Men franchise, they’ll be appearing in this summer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past — played by Evan Peters and an as-yet-unnamed child actress. The Avengers movie franchise is owned by Disney, so the versions in Avengers: Age of Ultron will have the same powers, but absolutely no connection to the Days of Future Past versions. For intellectual property reasons, they can’t be called “mutants” or have any connection to Magneto (who doesn’t exist in the Avengers movie universe).

Let’s all just bask in the speed-lined glow of sexy super-outfits. Get your homemade Halloween costumes ready now.
