In today’s Reality Rumble face-off, VH1’s Flavor of Love lost to The Bachelor. Sorry, Flav! But before there was Flavor of Love, there was Strange Love, and before Strange Love, there was The Surreal Life. What started out in 2003 as a washed-up celeb version of The Real World wound up being the cornerstone of VH1’s reality lineup — and not the “celebreality” shows like Breaking Bonaduce or Hogan Knows Best. Instead, Surreal spawned a whole family of its own. Rock of Love, I Love New York, even the currently running Couples Therapy: These all come from Surreal.
