Thirty years on and without original director Tony Scott, Jerry Bruckheimer’s desire to make a Top Gun sequel has not changed. Naval fighter weapons technology has changed a lot, however, so Top Gun 2 is going to have both Tom Cruise and drones. “The concept is basically, are the pilots obsolete because of drones? Cruise is going to show them that they’re not obsolete. The pilots are here to stay. That’s the concept of it,” the producer told HuffPo while promoting his book Jerry Bruckheimer: When Lightning Strikes, Four Decades of Filmmaking. At least it will be significantly less sad when Goose dies this time around, since he’ll just be a bunch of wires shaped like Anthony Edwards or something.
