This weekend sees the release of The Raid 2, the sequel to a fantastic 2011 Indonesian film full of martial arts and guns and knives and elbows to faces and all the things beloved by a certain type of action fan. Director Gareth Evans has released a deleted scene from The Raid 2 in which two gangs face off against each other. As Evans said on Vimeo, "This was probably the hardest for me to cut due to the fact that the production on this scene lasted around six days of shooting, it cost us a fuckload to make, and it served to escalate the gang war out onto the streets, involving people outside of the closed off inter-gang politics. At the end of the day, though, after discussing its worth, it took us away from the central theme for a little too long, with characters that would only exist in this scene alone."
The results are bloody. Like getting shot in the head, blown up with a grenade bloody.
