Will Ferrell is the very model of masculine bluster, and there are few men more manly or swaggering than tennis star Bobby Riggs, the retired player who lost to Billie Jean King in 1973's Battle of the Sexes match. The screenplay will be based on the ESPN article “The Match Maker: Bobby Riggs, the Mafia and the Battle of the Sexes" by Don Van Natta Jr. We love the idea, and not just because writing that makes this sentence a delicious tennis pun. It almost goes without saying that Kristen Wiig would make a spectacular Billie Jean, in large part because she probably harvested a bumper crop of awkward wigs from her SNL days. Those things must absorb sweat like a sponge.
