ABC Is Keeping Jimmy Kimmel Around for at Least Two More Years

The New York Times reports that ABC has given late night host Jimmy Kimmel a two-year contract extension, keeping him on the network through January 2017. This move shows that ABC has faith in Kimmel to go head-to-head with some stiff competition between Jimmy Fallon on NBC and, come next year, Stephen Colbert on CBS. According to THR, Kimmel’s rising ratings success factored into NBC’s decision to move Fallon to the 11:35pm time slot, but while Kimmel’s been holding strong with his 917,000 viewer demo average, Fallon’s Tonight Show has been drawing more ratings in the key 18-49 demo than Kimmel and Letterman combined, averaging 4.6 million viewers in its first two months on the air.
