According to THR, Michael Fassbender is in talks to play the lead in The Light Between Oceans, directed by The Place Beyond the Pines and Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance. The film is based on M.L Stedman's bestselling novel of the same name about an Australian WWI vet (presumably Fassbender) living in an isolated lighthouse with his wife. The pair discover a dead body and baby in a boat and decide to raise the child as their own, but the choice has tragic ramifications, because of course it does. Anyway, if you've been waiting for a silver lining to Ryan Gosling's acting hiatus, Michael Fassbender as Cianfrance's newest dark, brooding male lead might just be it.
