NBC announced a few more pickups this afternoon, giving series orders to two more dramas and a comedy. Joining the network will be:
- Constantine, based on the DC Comics series Hellblazer. It's about a guy who is a "seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult," according to NBC's announcement, and he and a woman he's sworn to protect battle the forces of evil.
- The Mysteries of Laura, starring Debra Messing as a New York homicide detective and mom to twin boys. "Between cleaning up after her boys and cleaning up the streets, she'd be the first to admit she has her 'hot mess' moments in this hilariously authentic look at what it really means to be a 'working mom' today," says NBC. Not sure why "working mom" would be in scare quotes, but the world is a mysterious place.
- A to Z, a comedy starring Mad Men's Ben Feldman and How I Met Your Mother's Cristin Milioti. It's basically a gender-swapped Dharma and Greg, with him as dreamy romantic and her as the uptight lawyer. He's Andrew, she's Zelda, hence "A to Z." Rashida Jones is among the show's executive producers.
Let the pickups continue! What an optimistic time of year.
