Designing Women’s Meshach Taylor Dead at 67

Meshach Taylor, best known for his Emmy-nominated role as Anthony Bouvier, the assistant to the Sugarbaker interior-design firm on Designing Women, passed away in hospice care last night. He was 67.

Born in Boston to two college professors, Taylor grew up in New Orleans. After graduating from Florida A&M, he got his first break on a national tour of Hair. His role on Designing Women was originally supposed to be a one-shot deal, but he told Wendy Williams in 2011 that the energy between him and Delta Burke and Dixie Carter was so good that they kept him on.

In 1983, he married General Hospital veteran Bianca Ferguson, with whom he had four children. In a Facebook post on Friday, his family wrote, “It is with love and gratitude that we sorrowfully announce that our darling, amazingly brilliant and dynamic, Meshach, the incredible father, husband, son and friend has begun his grand transition.”
