No, longtime Washington, D.C. politician Marion Barry has not been falsely accused of regicide and sentenced to death by his own father, but he was able to laugh about his own brush with the law. Spoilers ahead — don't read if you haven't seen the season finale of Game of Thrones, "The Children."
During the season finale, Barry tweeted:
My main man Tyrion! #GameOfThrones— Marion S. Barry, Jr. (@marionbarryjr) June 16, 2014
This prompted @kept_simple to reply:
.@marionbarryjr bitch set him up— kept_simple (@kept_simple) June 16, 2014
For those not familiar with the American precursor to Rob Ford, while serving as mayor in 1990, Barry was caught smoking crack with his mistress in an FBI sting. During the videotaped arrest, he lamented, "Bitch set me up ... I shouldn't have come up here ... goddamn bitch." Apparently, he didn't mind the reference:
@kept_simple Yeah, I must admit he was indeed set up but....he lives to tell about it. LOL!— Marion S. Barry, Jr. (@marionbarryjr) June 16, 2014
@kept_simple answered with a joke about the slogan for Barry's successful 1992 mayoral campaign, "He May Not Be Perfect, But He's Perfect for D.C."
@marionbarryjr Tyrion may not be perfect, but he's perfect for the Iron Throne— kept_simple (@kept_simple) June 16, 2014
Barry replied "LOL!" and added:
When it comes to keeping real politics entertaining, he certainly did his share.
