True Detective was designed to be a one-off season for its stars, which is part of the reason Matthew McConaughey signed on in the first place. "If HBO had wanted an option on me for a Season 2 or 3, I wouldn’t have done it," he tells Deadline. But now that it's all over, he's singing a slightly different tune. "I liked True Detective, the whole series and the experience of making it, so much that I'd be open to doing another one now," he says. Don't get your hopes up too high: Season two will have three leads, all of whom are new characters, with a new setting, new crimes, etc. Ah, well. You'll live on in our hearts and Emmy ballots, Rust Cohle.
