Netflix to Premiere a Talk Show Hosted by Chelsea Handler in 2016

Chelsea Handler’s next talk show home is officially Netflix. According to Deadline, the E! late night host has set a deal with the streaming network for a talk show, hour standup special, and four docu-comedy specials. The standup special will premiere on Netflix on October 10th and the talk show will launch sometime in 2016, though the frequency of episodes on Netflix has not yet been revealed. The docu-specials will be released next year and feature Handler tackling lesser areas of expertise “ranging from NASCAR to politics and from Silicon Valley to the NBA draft.” In a statement, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said: “The Internet has disrupted many of the conventions of traditional television and together with Chelsea Handler, Netflix is looking forward to reimagining the late night talk show for the on-demand generation, starting with the late night part.”

Back in March, Handler alluded to the Netflix gig during an interview with Howard Stern:

I wanted to sit with the cool kids at lunch so I approached Netflix to make sure they were as cool as I thought they were, and when I confirmed my suspicions, like with any other future lover, I made my move. I’m more excited than I’ve been in awhile, and the team at Netflix is the most forward thinking, alert group I’ve sat down with in ages. No offense to the Shahs Of Sunset.

Handler will end her run as host of E! talk show Chelsea Lately this August with a month of farewell-themed show highlights and a live hourlong series finale on August 26th.
