Nicki Minaj Disses Iggy Azalea in Her BET Award Acceptance Speech

Tonight, Nicki Minaj won the BET award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist for the fifth year in a row. But uneasy lies the head that wears the hip-hop crown: In her unfiltered, nearly four-minute-long acceptance speech, Minaj took the time to (presumably) throw some world-class shade at fellow nominee Iggy Azalea, who has been widely rumored to use ghostwriters. “What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it,” she said, before clarifying that she meant no offense. “No, no, no shade, no, no, no shade,” she said, smirking. Here’s a GIF of her definitely not throwing shade:

Nicki has never been one for diplomacy, but perhaps she was particularly emboldened by a recent brush with mortality. As she described in her speech: “The other day, literally, I didn’t tell anybody this, I really thought I was about to die. Like, I was saying my prayers to die. And I didn’t even wanna call the ambulance because I thought, Well, if I call an ambulance, it’s gonna be on TMZ,” she explained. Thankfully she’s doing fine now, and she even learned something in the process. As she continued, “It made me realize: I don’t care anymore what anybody gotta say. I’mma do me! I’mma do me.” Here’s the full video of Nicki doing Nicki:
