After only a year, featured player Brooks Wheelan announced on Twitter that he has been fired from the cast of Saturday Night Live. One of six new featured players added at the beginning of season 39, SNL’s resident sleeper hottie had a pretty rough season, debuting few memorable characters and struggling to find time on air. (In Vulture’s semi-scientific analysis of the new cast members’ first season, Wheelan had one of the lowest impact scores, second only to co-star John Milhiser.) Still, getting fired from SNL is a tough blow, and to his credit, the 27-year-old stand-up seemed pretty good-natured about it, tweeting on Monday: “Had a blast and loved every second of it. I’m totally honored to be able to make this next joke … FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT’S SATURDAY NIGHT!”
