As expected, we are quickly learning more about Miley Cyrus's homeless VMA date, Jesse Helt, with the news breaking today that there is a warrant out for his arrest in the state of Oregon. According to the AP, Helt was arrested on charges of criminal mischief, criminal trespass, and burglary back in 2010, when he was 18, after breaking into the apartment of a man who he believed to have sold him bad marijuana. The arrest warrant was issued after he violated his probation in November 2011. A sheriff from Polk County, Oregon, said that he visited the home of Helt's mother in Salem on Tuesday and is looking for him, while his mother told reporters on Monday that Cyrus had given Helt some money to fly home for a visit soon.
Cyrus, for her part, was frustrated by the media's decision to zone in on Helt's legal troubles, tweeting today:
People who are homeless have lived very hard lives. Jesse included.— Miley Ray Cyrus (@MileyCyrus) August 26, 2014
I hope that this can be the start of a national conversation about youth homelessness and how to end it.— Miley Ray Cyrus (@MileyCyrus) August 26, 2014
Does looking down upon the homeless help people excuse their inaction?— Miley Ray Cyrus (@MileyCyrus) August 26, 2014
The media never fails to disappoint. You've chosen to go after Jesse instead of covering the issue of youth homelessness :(— Miley Ray Cyrus (@MileyCyrus) August 26, 2014
