Marvel Fans Get a Sneak Peek at Agent Carter

Fans of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. got a treat at a Friday New York Comic Con panel about the show: Not only did they get to an early screening of this coming Tuesday’s episode, “I Will Face My Enemy,” one of the strongest in the series so far, but they also got a sneak peek of the new show Agent Carter, coming this January. The show just began shooting this past Monday, and it stars Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Dominic Cooper reprising his Captain America role as Howard Stark, and James D’Arcy as butler/chauffeur extraordinaire Edwin Jarvis.

We only got two minutes’ worth, but in that time frame, we see Jarvis take Carter and Stark to a desolate pier, where Stark prepares to depart to a vague destination “overseas.” Apparently, a sizable number of Stark’s inventions have been appropriated and are being sold off in various locations, and while he goes to track some of them, Carter takes the assignment to find the ones that are still local. “Word is one of the nasty ones is hitting the market in the next day or two,” he tells her. His formula for a molecular nitrate is explosive enough that a handful could level a city block. Luckily, only a finite number of physicists are capable of using the formula. “You just got to learn which one, and I figure you’ll never have any trouble finding a man,” he says. She retorts, “The trick is finding the right one.” Stark speeds away, and Carter turns to Jarvis for help. From there, we got to see the finale — Carter pummeling an unknown assailant, and then sending him through a glass window. Now our minds are reeling with the crossover potentials for this series — just as S.H.I.E.L.D. draws from what’s happening in the Marvel movies (hello, Nick Fury!), what could Agent Carter do?
