Autobiographical sitcoms continue to dominate the major networks’ development slates, but the latest addition comes with a twist: Puppets. Deadline reports that ABC has bought an untitled single-cam comedy from Gregg Mettler (That ‘70s Show, Cougar Town, Back in the Game) based on his childhood growing up with a puppeteer father. The project is being described as “Malcolm in the Middle meets The Middle” – so, a family sitcom? – and apparently the many puppets in Mettler’s household (see photo) were considered by him to be “surrogate siblings,” which is funny and totally not disturbing, right?
