Netflix Wants to Remake A Series of Unfortunate Events

2004's big-screen version of A Series of Unfortunate Events didn't quite become the massive franchise-spawning hit its makers intended, but now the series is getting a second chance at Netflix, the home of pop-culture second chances. Unlike previously floated plans for a stop-motion sequel, Netflix's Series of Unfortunate Events will be a live-action series, though neither Jim Carrey, Emily Browning, nor Liam Aiken are expected to reprise their roles. Lemony Snicket himself is involved, telling Deadline: "I can't believe it. After years of providing top-quality entertainment on demand, Netflix is risking its reputation and its success by associating itself with my dismaying and upsetting books."
