Alas, there is no Oscar Futures column this week. (Vacations won’t take themselves, people!) Don’t fret, though: If you’re still curious about who’s up and who’s down, check out my report from the AFI Film Festival filed earlier this week, where Selma surged, American Sniper had a solid-but-not-spectacular bow, and The Gambler gave Mark Wahlberg a problematic hand to play. In the days since, Tim Burton’s Big Eyes quietly entered the Oscar race, but the reception is so mixed that it’s unclear how the film will fare during awards season. Stay tuned!
