Listeners to "Serial" know that a Maryland Best Buy is a key site in the 1999 death of Hae Min Lee. The state alleges that Adnan Syed killed Lee in the parking lot there, and host Sarah Koenig spends a lot of time investigating whether that particular store had a payphone outside of it, because Jay, the star witness at Syed's trial, claimed Syed called him from one, saying, “I’ve killed her. Come pick me up.”
Which makes the above tweet, posted today on Best Buy's Twitter account, rather insensitive. This, by the way, was the tweet immediately before that one — so at least they did prove their own point.
Update: They've apologized.
We deeply apologize for our earlier tweet about Serial. It lacked good judgment and doesn’t reflect the values of our company. We are sorry.— Best Buy (@BestBuy) December 11, 2014
