Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks is joining the cast of Cameron Crowe’s Showtime pilot Roadies, the network announced today. The show is set within a tour of a successful rock band and is largely told through the crew members’ eyes. Hendricks will play Shelli, the band’s production manager, who’s described in the press release as “tough, but privately emotional, married to her job … and scary-good at it.” Well, okay. Hendricks joins the previously cast Luke Wilson, who plays the tour manager; Imogen Poots, who plays an electrical technician; Keisha Castle-Hughes, who plays the sound mixer; Peter Cambor, who plays a guitar tech; and Rafe Spall, the financial manager sent to babysit the crew. The pilot shoots early next year, with Crowe writing and directing the first ep, My So-Called Life’s Winnie Holzman as showrunner, and J.J. Abrams among the executive producers. Hendricks has had several film roles during Mad Men’s run, but this would be her first major TV commitment post–Sterling Cooper, and while the loss of Joan Harris looms large, the idea that Hendricks could still be on TV, sharply telling people what to do, is a comfort.
