Amazon Is Getting Into the Movie Business Now, Too

By

Just like Netflix, Amazon has decided the best way to follow up its critically acclaimed TV shows is to start making original movies — up to 12 a year, it announced in a statement today. Unlike Netflix, it's not cutting the big screen out entirely: The company said it planned to premiere its films in theaters and then release them on Amazon Prime "four to eight weeks" later. Whether theaters will be onboard with that is a different story, but if there's any lesson we've learned in the last ten years, it's that Amazon generally gets what Amazon wants.
