American Sniper Has Brought in More Than $200 Million at the Box Office

American Sniper has been a major topic of conversation over the past few weeks, and it looks like that will continue: The Clint Eastwood film dominated the box office for the second week in a row, bringing in $64.4 million for a grand total of $200.1 million. The strong second-week showing gives Sniper the best sophomore week for an R-rated film ever and places it eighth on the list overall. The movie has easily surpassed Gran Torino to become Clint Eastwood’s highest grossing film. (It’s also Bradley Cooper’s best movie, as long as we aren’t counting Guardians of the Galaxy.)

In other box-office debuts, Jennifer Lopez’s thriller The Boy Next Door had a modest showing for second place with $15 million. The animated film Strange Magic and the Johnny Depp something Mortdecai completely bombed, bringing $5.5 million and $4.4 million respectively. Instead, the rest of the top five were holdovers from the week prior: Paddington had $12.4 million, The Wedding Ringer $11.6 million, and Taken 3 $7.6 million. Meanwhile, in limited release, Jennifer Aniston’s missed Oscar opportunity Cake also disappointed with just $1 million over 482 theaters for a per-screen average of $2,081.
