Just like Harry Potter and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Peter Jackson’s Hobbit franchise is essentially a social service that provides much-needed income for working British actors. But despite having a fairly successful career, Eddie Redmayne has not managed to appear in any of the Hobbit trilogy’s 513 minutes. What’s wrong with him? As Redmayne revealed on The Graham Norton Show last week, his absence can be traced back to one particularly terrible audition. (At least he made Anna Kendrick laugh.) Convincing Stephen Hawking to fight a dragon remains Redmayne’s best shot at getting a trilogy.
