It might be a new year, but the weekend box office results stayed steady from 2014. The third installment in The Hobbit series, The Battle of the Five Armies, was on top for the third consecutive weekend with $21.9 million, bringing its domestic total to $220.8 million. Into the Woods and Unbroken continued strong runs with $19 million and $18.4 million respectively. The only new wide release, The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death, brought in $15.1 million.

The Imitation Game's slow roll continues to pay off as the film brought in $8 million to bring its total to $30 million. Making its debut in limited release, A Most Violent Year screened in four theaters, bringing in $188,000 for a per-screen average of $47,000. Selma did strongly across 22 screens to bring in $645,000 for a PSA of $29,318. But Clint Eastwood's American Sniper is the winner in terms of per-screen averages, with $47,000 brought in over four theaters for a total of $640,000.
