Paul F. Tompkins Teases a 2015 ‘Mr. Show’ Reunion

It’s no longer a question of whether or not a Mr. Show reunion is happening, but how long will we have to wait for it? Mr. Show writer/cast member Paul F. Tompkins recently tweeted a photo of some of the Mr. Show gang hanging out at what is hopefully a writers’ table with the somewhat mysterious caption “Eight men out… of the 1990s. Maybe something new coming from the Mr. Show gang in the new year? #MrShow.” Mr. Show co-creator Bob Odenkirk confirmed with us in November that he hopes for a reunion of the HBO sketch show sometime this year:

Beyond more focus on telling longer stories, do you have other things you’d like to see more of in comedy going forward?I can’t wait for Chris Rock’s next standup special. I’d like to see Louie continue to do shows forever. I love Girls. Girls is one of my favorite shows. I’d like to see a Mr. Show reunion next year at HBO.Is that in the works? We’re talking about it. I’d like to see that happen. I’d like to do more work with David Cross because we work great together. I always want to see what Ricky Gervais is making because he’s funny as hell. Paul F. Tompkins, more of him. More Jay Johnston if somebody can figure out what to do with him. Who else? Those Key and Peele fellows are funny. I like those guys. There’s a lot of good stuff happening. I hope that sketch comedy on TV, which is also having a heyday, carries on. I hope that doesn’t implode or transform. I would like there to always be six sketch shows on TV. I think that we should be able to support that. The old days when it was just Saturday Night Live was a little too limited for me. I like Saturday Night Live, but I like Amy Schumer and I like Key and Peele and I love The Birthday Boys. I hope that that aspect of this time period isn’t a fad. I don’t think it needs to be. I think there’s audience enough for multiple sketch shows.
