It's not news that Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, the superstar creators/stars of IFC's Portlandia, are extremely talented musicians. Both of them were playing and touring for years before they even met, much less started doing comedy together. And it's also not news that one of Fred's deadliest musical weapons is the drum kit. So when the two of them blew into town last week, we jumped at the chance to take them to one of New York's greatest drum shops, Steve Maxwell Vintage and Custom Drums. Once we were there, we let Fred and Carrie loose. What ensued was a session of jamming (did you know Carrie, too, is a wonderful drummer?), joshing, and journeying into the past. In fact, Fred revealed the origin of the word drum as well as the previously untold story of his birth! Both stories were definitely absolutely a million percent true, probably. Watch and learn and nod your head rhythmically.
