Standup Jermaine Fowler’s ABC pilot Delores & Jermaine just cast Fowler’s onscreen grandmother. According to EW, Whoopi Goldberg has officially been cast opposite Fowler in the multi-cam pilot, which follows Fowler as “a millennial with big ideas, but very little drive, who moves in with his estranged grandmother (Goldberg), a strict, football-loving, former D.C. cop who needs his youthful enthusiasm in her life as much as he needs her old school parenting.” The pilot will tape in New York and reportedly not conflict with Goldberg’s hosting duties on The View, and if it gets picked up Goldberg will also serve as an executive producer alongside Fowler and Office alum Danny Chun. It would also make Goldberg’s first starring role in a scripted comedy series since Whoopi ended its run on NBC in 2004.
