The grifter film Focus, starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie, brought in $19.1 million in its opening weekend. It didn’t have much competition: The other new wide release, The Lazarus Effect, brought in $10.6 million. Focus dethroned Fifty Shades of Grey, which slipped to fourth place with $10.9 million. Kingsman: The Secret Service stayed in second with $11.7 million, and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water brought in $11.2 million. Overall, it was a weak box office, with the top 12 films bringing in $95.4 million.
