CBS Orders ‘Rush Hour,’ ‘Angel from Hell,’ and ‘Life in Pieces’ to Series

CBS announced a round of series orders today including two new comedies. First up is an order for Bill Lawrence and Blake McCormack’s Rush Hour TV series, which is billed as a drama. CBS also ordered two half-hour single-cam comedies: Tad Quill’s Angel from Hell starring Jane Lynch, Maggie Lawson, Kyle Bornheimer, and Kevin Pollak, which centers on Lynch as a stranger named Amy claiming to the guardian angel of a woman named Allison (Lawson). The second half-hour comedy order goes to the Aaron Kaplan-produced Life in Pieces by Better Off Ted’s Justin Adler, which has a very vague logline (“one family told through the separate stories of its different family members”) but a pretty stellar cast: Dianne Wiest, James Brolin, Colin Hanks, Zoe Lister Jones, Angelique Cabral, Thomas Sadoski, and Betsy Brandt.

UPDATE: Following the three new series orders, CBS has canceled freshman comedy The McCarthys. Starring Laurie Metcalf and Jack McGee, The McCarthys was pulled off the air in February, leaving four episodes unaired.
