Watch an Exclusive Clip From the Heavily Hyped Me and Earl and the Dying Girl

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl was a sensation at the Sundance Film Festival this past January, winning both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award (a rare two-fer also managed by Whiplash and Fruitvale Station). So what was all the fuss about? You can take a look yourself with this exclusive clip from the movie, which comes out June 12 and is based on the book by Jesse Andrews. In it, you'll watch as two of our titular protagonists meet under less-than-ideal circumstances: High-school senior Greg (Thomas Mann) — the "me" in this scenario — is forced by his mother to befriend cancer-stricken "dying girl" Rachel (Olivia Cooke), though neither of these teenagers is that excited about their mandatory hangouts. Eventually, they'll find common ground, though there's nothing common about the way that director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon shoots their interactions: Even in this clip, you'll get a sense of the unusual framing he brings to bear on Me and Earl. Then again, this might not be your first exposure to Gomez-Rejon's visual vigor, as the hot young director has also shot many of American Horror Story's most dazzling episodes.
