The high priestess of strange Tilda Swinton is in talks to join Benedict Cumberbatch in Marvel's Strange, THR reports. Swinton will play the Ancient One, Dr. Strange's mentor, who has a fleet of pupils training to be the world's next top sorcerer. In the comics, the character is male, and Marvel was initially looking for a male actor to fill the role but realized that Swinton's natural otherworldly glow knows no gender (or race, apparently). Nothing is outside of the Swinton wheelhouse: Recently, she's been an ennui-drenched vampire in Only Lovers Left Alive and a sniveling lackey in Snowpiercer, and she'll be Amy Schumer's exacting boss in the upcoming Trainwreck. With the Ancient One's age topping out over 500, it appears Swinton is well on her way to fulfilling her email auto-reply message's prophecy:"Hello, I am away until 01/01/2070 and am unable to read your message."
