For Odd Mom Out, Satirizing the Moms of the Upper East Side Is All in Good Humor

Jill Kargman has come a long way since her humble days writing tampon and menopausal-drug commercials. Now the creator and star of Odd Mom Out, Kargman stopped by Vulture Festival on Sunday to discuss her new scripted satirical series, which premieres on Bravo on June 8. Based on her novel Momzillas, the show chronicles Kargman's attempts to successfully navigate the tumultuous waters of the high-maintenance and Über-wealthy mom culture of the Upper East Side. Don’t call it Gossip Girl for the 40-something crowd, though. “Laughter is the key for me. This is not trying to do a study on a neighborhood or send up a particular petri dish of a world,” she explains. “It’s really just to make people laugh. That’s my only hope.” Watch the humorous interview below.
